Lanta New Beach Resort
Very similar in style to its neighbour, Blue Andaman Resort, Lanta New Beach is lesser known on the tourist trail, mainly as its owner, a local man, is apparently not interested in making money. They do not advertise anywhere off the island and it took some persuasion even to let us book for them! And he is happy to reinvest any money he does make back into the resort, which means this modest 38-room property can boast two decent sized swimming pools, one on the beachfront, and the other, quieter, at the back of the resort near a set of newer bungalows.
All of the accommodation is in individual concrete bungalows, arranged in neat rows perpendicular to the beach, which means the sea is just about visible from every terrace. The resort then extends further back in an L-shape - the rooms on this side don't have a sea view, but they do have their own pool, as mentioned above.
All bungalows at Lanta New Beach are air conditioned and have hot water, fridge and TV. Some double rooms can be booked as fan rooms, in which case the air conditioning is simply not switched on. Decor is local Thai style - plain white walls and tiles, with splashes of colour on the shiny curtains and bed covers. Bathrooms are "all-in-one", i.e. there is no separation between the shower area and the toilet and sink.
Rooms are generally quite spacious and clean. The majority of the rooms are triple, with one double and one single bed, the rest have either one or two double beds.
Resort facilities include a beach front restaurant and bar; the usual ticketing and tour counter; laundry service; Thai massage pavilions overlooking the water; overseas calls; car parking; and bike and car rental. The beach in front of the resort is swimmable only at high tide; at low tide the beach is quite rocky. Both sand and water are very clean.
